Here is a quick guide on how to properly wear layers:

Base layer – This is the part that is directly in contact with your skin. Here you should wear a shirt that is made of nylon or polyester because these fabrics draw sweat and moisture away from your body; preventing you from getting too cold.

Insulation layer – This is the layer that will further draw out the moisture from your body and also help keep heat inside. This layer should be made from breathable material like cotton or wool (that is if you do not have allergies to it), because the air pockets in between the fibers help regulate your body temperature.
